Keep pace with the rapidly evolving LP-Gas industry with the newly revised edition of NFPA Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code.

There are inherent dangers in working with equipment and appliances fueled by liquefied petroleum (LP) gas. Enforced in most states and referenced by DOT, NFPA 58, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, offers safety requirements for all LP-Gas (propane) installations to help protect homes, businesses, and industrial settings.

The 2020 edition is modified and expanded to account for the development of state-of-the-art technology and the evolution of safety protocols and industry best practices.

Important updates help designers, health and safety managers, AHJs, and insurance professionals prepare for the challenges of modern LP-Gas hazards.

The LP-Gas Code is your source for the latest requirements for LP-gas installations, including container construction, piping design, and separation of containers from homes, stores, schools, and other buildings. The code also provides comprehensive coverage of handling LP-Gas during transfer and storage, including operator qualifications, maximum filling quantity in containers, and pre-transfer inspections to ensure containers are fit for continued service.

Significant edits, changes, and additions to the 2020 edition of NFPA 58 include:

  • New requirements for fire-resistance rating and noncombustible materials to specify when materials are required to have a particular fire-resistance rating or when they must be noncombustible
  • Introduction of provisions allowing for the use of schedule 10 steel piping in aboveground vapor service only, and the use of austenitic stainless steel in piping material
  • Clarification to remove conflict between industry standards and the code for choosing fire extinguishers
  • Requirements requiring the inspection of the face seal on CGA 791 and CGA 797 connections prior to filling with instructions to follow in case defects are found
  • Modifications to Chapter 15, Operations and Maintenance, to specifically reference operations and maintenance requirements and to remove unrelated installation provisions
  • Adjusted scope of Chapter 15 to exclude systems regulated by more stringent US Department of Transportation requirements for operations and maintenance

Get the cutting-edge information you need to help safeguard LP-Gas installations.
